College of Science
Degree Program: Geology
Minor: English
At the time of writing, I am a senior anticipating graduation in August of 2012. In my last few remaining semesters at LSU, I felt that it behooved me to apply for Communication across the Curriculum's "Distinguished Communicator" program to capitalize on preexisting talents in written English communication and bolster my credentials before entering a competitive workforce.
During my time here as an undergraduate, I have enjoyed studying science and mathematics for their rigor and elegance, but have also somewhat surreptitiously nursed a zeal for the romantic and philosophical persuasions of English. I particularly enjoy literary criticism and the musings of German and Russian existential writers.

Post-Graduation Aspirations
I wish to find a job straightaway once I earn my undergraduate degree in Geology. It is my belief that obtaining a degree in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) affords one a certain advantage in the job market. I am partially torn between my quixotic, liberal streak favoring passionate, ideologically-driven work in the environmental or regulatory sector, and another more avaricious drive seduced by the lucrative promises of the petroleum industry.
My first experiences with mountains came around the time my parents relocated from the flatland of Louisiana to the mountainous states of Colorado and West Virginia. At the time of writing (Spring 2012), I am enrolled in Structural Geology, and hoping to gain more insight into the processes of faulting, folding, plate tectonics, and mountain-building.
Although I cannot wax poetic and espouse inchoate dreams that I will effect profound change in the machinations of the world, I do hope to become an educated, gainfully-employed citizen, exercising moral agency and acting providently within my sphere of influence. I hope that CxC's Distinguished Communicator program will galvanize my communication abilities, doubtless invaluable assets in any future career and in social and literary recreation.
